Chapter 1: Recurrence
______________________________________________________________________________________
I rested my chin on my hand. I stared out the window of the cab. Mount Fuji... well, Mount Olympus. There was an entrance to Olympus at every major important mountain in the world. This one was ours. It was a beautiful mountain. Something that someone should marvel at whenever they have the chance. A large Greek marble gazebo sat at the mountain's base. Its columns were shaped into beautiful nymphs, made of marble that looked so soft that it couldn't possibly be made from stone. A black glass ceiling with the most intricate carving I'd ever seen. It was surrounded by a pond and steppingstones. That led up to its entrance. It was pristine white that had never been dirtied by anything. It had been there for as long as anyone could remember. Those who wished to could sail out there and pray to the Gods. Only if you were a die-hard believer though; normal people would pray at home or church. Once, someone dared to try to climb the mountain, past the clouds where they couldn't be seen. Dare to touch those beautiful big golden gates above the clouds with their mortal hands. No doubt the Gods knew that they were coming. They watched and they waited. To see the human who was so brave... no, more like the human who was so stupid. That unfortunate human just so happened to be my mother. I couldn't blame her. She was a priestess. She was raised to be devoted to the Gods, for her entire life. She was the same as her religion-crazed father. One day she took her devotion too far. She climbed that stupid mountain, and the three Horae threw her from the top. of the mountain. The punishment for any mortal who dared to break the rules. After that, my brother went to live with my father in America. We kept in touch for a while until one day we weren't. My father was afraid that I would turn out to be like her, like mymother. I felt such longing whenever I looked at this place. For the life of me. I could not figure out why. I thought it was because my mother died there, but after a while, I knew that wasn't the reason.
Prometheus was tasked with creating us. With creating mankind, to be specific. He made us in an upright position. Out of the mud in the likeness of the Gods and breathed life into us. If that didn't piss the Gods off him giving us the gift of fire because he loved us, sure as hell did. To Prometheus, we were his greatest creation. He loved us more than those Olympians who had torn apart his family. He was severely punished because of it. Well for the most part it was true, but for those who grew up in the church. Or the cults I like to call them, just like I did know the truth. Thousands of years ago humans were created with four arms, four legs, and one head with two faces. Androgynous is what we have originally been referred to as. However, Zeus feared us as he secretly did all things differently from him. He split us all into two separate parts, condemning us to spend the rest of our lives searching for our other halves. It left us feeling incomplete until the end of our days, just to spite Prometheus as if chaining him to a mountain peak and having an eagle eat his liver day after day wasn't enough. He was eventually freed by Heracles though. What happened to him after that, no one knows for sure. I sighed, looking away from the mountain, as the taxi road went on. I gnawed on the inside of my cheek during the quiet ride home. The taxi man banged on the plexiglass, signaling we had reached my destination. I exited and started the large trek up the shrine steps.
"Ugh, I'm so sick of these steps. I wish I had the money to move."
Yeah right. Who was I kidding? As if I would let this place go to hell.
I went to my front door and saw a package on my porch.
I made a face. "What the? I didn't order anything."
I tore it open right there. Plucking the card from inside; it read.
"I saw this the other day and thought of you. I hope you like it."
-Hōjō
I smiled, shoving the card into my back pocket. Hōjō had always been sweet to me like this, since high school. He was helpful when that whole thing with my mom happened. I've been pushing him away for as long as I can remember. I was used to being alone. People have avoided me since my mom, but Hōjō was different, and I didn't know how to deal with that. I was too used to being shunned. Someone wanting to be near me weirded me out. I ripped through the plastic, smiling even harder. I ran my fingers over the yellow fabric. It was a yellow backpack, just like the one that I had had in high school. How was it that someone could be so sweet?
"I guess I should give him a chance. I mean he's stuck around for this long," I mumbled.
I went inside, bringing my new gift with me. I practically stripped once I'd stepped foot inside. I jumped into the tub as soon as I could. I let the scalding hot water soak all my worries away. I scrubbed my scalp with shampoo sighing in ecstasy. I dunked my head under the water to rinse but stayed there for a while before resurfacing for air. When I was satisfied, I drained the water, barely drying my skin. I threw on a big T-shirt. Towel dried my hair as I walked past the window, backtracking as I did. Someone was standing in my courtyard. A man to be exact. Possibly the most beautiful man I had ever seen. I leaned onto my windowpane trying to get a closer look at him.
He wore a jet-black suit, and a watch that I'm pretty sure was too expensive for me to name.
Expensive.
His skin seemed to glow in the moonlight. His hair was silver just like starlight. It shined brighter than anything I had ever seen. He was so beautiful. It flowed around him so effortlessly. I was so drawn to him. He seemed so... familiar. Did I know him from somewhere? No, I had never met this man before. I was sure of it. So, then what was this feeling? His face looked so pained, yet angry at the same time. He turned to me, our eyes meeting, my breath hitching in my throat. I clutched my shirt. What was this feeling? Why was I feeling this looking at a stranger?
My phone rang. I looked away just for a second. I turned back to the window, and the stranger was gone. I grabbed my phone and answered it.
"Hey Sango, What's up?"
"I'm outside waiting for you."
"Crap, I'll be out soon. Just give me a few seconds."
"Hurry up and get your butt out here, before I leave you." She joked.
I laughed. "Yeah, sure you will," I said hanging up
Alright, it's time to get dressed.

Sango hadn't lied when she said the lounge was upscale. The floors were matte black, with black marble walls, golden accents, and dim warm lighting. The security here was tight. Sango had to show a card when we arrived at the door. The music puts you in the right mood. It was a jazz fusion of some sort; very sultry. The mood of the entire place just felt right. It was so comforting. It was the kind of place that made you feel like you belonged. Even the food here was good. It wasn't anything at all like the places Sango had taken me before. All those sweaty people cramped on the dance floor and rubbing up against one another. It wasn't my vibe at all.
"See, I told you this would be a nice place."
I took a sip of my drink.
"Can you blame me for having doubts?"
She put her hands up in defense.
"I know the few places I've brought you to before were a bit… different, but I'm making up for it."
"How did you find this place anyway? It's a little hidden."
"I know right? A gorgeous man was promoting it, and he handed me a card with the address. He said to bring my friends and that we would have a good time. Invite only he said. How could I turn that down?"
"Oh, what a coincidence. "
She almost choked on her drink.
"Oh, my Gods are you okay?"
"Speaking of coincidences." She said nodding her head in the opposite direction.
I looked over my shoulder and it was him. It was the stranger I saw when I looked through my window. He was talking to one of the security guards until our eyes locked. The moment we had; he started making his way over to us. I quickly turned around.
"Wait why is he coming over here?" I asked panicking.
Sango smiled at him brightly.
"Hopefully to take one of us home." She mumbled.
"Hello again." I heard him say.
I focused on my drink. The sound of his voice was… different. It was deep and sultry; yet calming all at the same time.
I wondered if I should ask him, if that was him by my house a while ago. Would that make things awkward? What if it was just someone who looked like him?
"Hello! Thank you so much for giving me this card. This place is amazing." She said flirty. I'm Sango nice to meet you!"
"Thank you for coming. I am Sesshomaru. It is nice to make your acquaintance, and you are?"
Oh! He was talking to me!
I looked up at him wide-eyed. He looked even better closely. He smelled amazing too. The color of his eyes was one I'd never seen before. What color was that? Was that amber? A few seconds had passed and I realized I was staring into his eyes.
"Oh, I'm sorry," I said, blushing.
I could feel my face getting hot. I hoped that he wouldn't notice me blushing in this lighting. He gave me a small smile, not looking away. He held his hand out and I took it and shook it.
"I am Kagone. It is nice to meet you."
"Hn." He said, holding my hand just a few seconds longer.
He let go of my hand and I missed the warmth of his hand in mine. It was so strange. I didn't know this man. Why did he make me feel like this?
"The two of you enjoy the rest of your night. There are things I must attend to." He said walking away.
Sango smiled. "Kagome holy crap. What was that?"
I shrugged. "I have no idea."
"The hell you don't. He was flirting with you, and you were definitely into him too."
"I was not." I lied.
"Oh please. Who are you fooling? You were all lost in his eyes. It's like the both of you were talking but with your eyes. It was very sexy."
I rolled my eyes. "You're seeing things. You know what's weird though?"
"What could be weirder than you finding your soulmate?"
"Haha, very funny. No but seriously. I think that I saw him standing in my courtyard. It was right before you called me."
"Are you sure you weren't just seeing things?"
"I don't know maybe, but they just looked so similar."
"Well next time, invite him inside and find out." she teased.
I took another look over my shoulder. He had his back to me.
Maybe I was seeing things.
